Surveillance or Smart Safety?

The world has changed. You’ve probably heard people say, “When we were kids, we could go anywhere—and nothing ever happened.” But today's environment is different, and technology gives parents tools to manage everyday safety with more control and confidence.

Still, questions arise: How much should parents monitor their kids? When does supervision become surveillance? It’s important for every family to define their own boundaries. With Xplora, you can tailor location tracking to what feels right for your family dynamic.

Children build confidence through exploration and a sense of accomplishment. Even when they don’t succeed immediately, they learn resilience. Giving them responsibility fosters growth—and a GPS-enabled smartwatch supports this learning journey without intrusive oversight.

Technology Should Support, Not Replace, Parenting

Smartwatches are tools—not replacements. Batteries can die, and even the best GPS isn’t infallible. That’s why Xplora is meant to be a supplement to parenting, not a substitute. Think of it as a resource to help your child explore the world safely, while you stay connected.

How to Set Up a Safe Zone in the Xplora App

  1. Open the Xplora parent app and select your child’s profile.
  2. Tap the location/address shown to view the GPS map (note: the watch must be charged).
  3. In the top menu, tap “S-Zone”.
  4. Select “Add/edit security zone” at the bottom.
  5. To add a new zone, press “+ Add new”.
  6. Choose a central point (e.g., home, school, or a local park).
  7. Name the zone and select a radius from 300 to 5,000 meters.
  8. Press “Save”—you’ll now receive alerts when your child enters or exits the zone.
